One person has died in a crash in Elland this morning.

Another person has been taken to hospital following the crash on Huddersfield Road, off Calderdale Way at around 1.15am.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service this morning confirmed the death of one of the people in the crashed BMW.

They said: “At 01:26 hours today we attended a fatal road traffic collision in Huddersfield Road, Elland.

“Three fire engines were sent to the scene. This incident involved four casualties – one of which was extricated (cut free) from the vehicle and transported to hospital via ambulance.

"Sadly, another casualty proved fatal.”

Police have been on the scene of the incident since 1.15am and are trying to piece together what happened.

It is thought a car collided with a tree on the Huddersfield-bound sliproad to the bypass leading to Ainley Top.

The road was closed until around 9am this morning.
