SPEEDING drivers think twice when they see police officers carrying out speed checks, a sergeant said.

Elland’s Sgt Warren Pitman and other officers have conducted speed checks in the town.

Sgt Pitman said: “It is an issue everywhere in the country but we are trying to do something about it here.

“The amount of calls we get about speeding is vast, for Exley Lane and Dewsbury Road in particular.

“It appears to be speeding at specific times and these people need to understand they can cause harm to themselves and other people.

“We have stopped and spoken to people and offered advice and issued tickets.

“When people see us with the speed gun they do slow down and it makes them think about their speed when they’re on that road at other times too.”
