New pictures of Emley Moor Mast before and just after its collapse in 1969 have emerged.

The beloved Yorkshire icon fell down on March 19, after strong winds and heavy ice combined to drag the structure to the ground.

The current mast is the third structure, which is an amazing 1084ft tall, making it the UK's largest freestanding structure.

It's even 20m taller than the Shard building in London.

The first mast, at 443ft, was taken down in 1965 and replaced with the second, 1265ft mast, which was supported with guy ropes.

It was this mast which collapsed under ice in 1969.

It was replaced with a temporary tower, before the current structure was completed and transmissions began on January 21, 1971.

Now a Grade II listed building, it is the tallest freestanding structure in the United Kingdom and the 23rd tallest tower in the world.

It has seen many changes in the landscape which it looks down onto but it's loved by everyone in Huddersfield - proved by the many pictures of it you sent us for our 2015 calendar!
