A MAN has retired after 31 years in higher education in Huddersfield.

John Dunn is the man who created the university's personnel courses

Colleagues in the university Business School got together to mark the retirement of senior lecturer Mr Dunn.

Over the past 30 years, many of the personnel professionals in the town and district have completed the part-time programmes designed by Mr Dunn.

He joined the former Huddersfield Polytechnic in 1972 to design and create from scratch an Institute of Personnel Management course.

He became the programme's course leader and a year tutor for the Diploma in Management Studies.

Mr Dunn, originally from Durham, read social sciences at the university there.

He gained his postgraduate diploma in industrial administration and an MSc in industrial relations at Bradford, an MA in employment law/relations at Leicester and his postgraduate certificate in education at the former Holly Bank College, Lindley.

He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Mr Dunn and his wife, Pat, hope to move back to the North East.
