SPRING has sprung and it’s time to enjoy the great outdoors – including woods.

The Tree Council is urging people to enjoy their local woodlands during May, which is Walk In The Woods month.

Tree Council wardens and volunteers across the UK will be running events and activities from wildlife watching to teddy bears’ picnics.

Events include a ‘woodland gourmet’ day in Hebden Bridge on May 2.

The event, organised by the National Trust, starts at 10am at Hardcastle Crags and includes a woodland walk with a guide pointing out what plants can be eaten.

Booking for the event is essential and places cost £4 each.

Outdoor clothing, waterproof gear and stout footwear is advised.
