A YOUNG couple escaped unhurt after an arsonist poured petrol over the door of a house in Almondbury last night and set it alight.

The couple in their late teens climbed out of a window at their home at High Close at 11.50pm last night.

Firefighters managed to confine the blaze to the door. It was potentially the most serious incident on so-called Mischief Night.

A moped was destroyed by arsonists at Dalton Fold Road, Dalton, at 6.20pm.

A skip was set on fire at Malham Road, Rastrick, at 8.25pm and a VW Golf car was torched at Fare Hill Flats, Wain Brow, Berry Brow, at 8.45pm.
