SUPERMARKET workers caught up in last week’s rioting have been ordered to “make up” the time they lost when their store was closed.

A Tesco Metro in Salford closed its doors early to protect staff and customers from nearby unrest last Tuesday.

The company admitted yesterday it was forcing staff to work extra hours to “make up” for the time lost when the store was closed.

Asda on Bradford Road in Huddersfield also closed its doors during last Tuesday’s disturbances.

But a company spokeswoman told the Examiner yesterday: “Whilst we did have to close our store overnight, we paid our colleagues.”
