RAVENSKNOWLE Park's Victorian splendour has been wrecked by graffiti.

Every single building in the Wakefield Road park, surrounding the Tolson Museum, has been defaced by scrawls of pen and paint.

And now Kirklees Council chiefs are calling on the public to shop the culprits.

John Fletcher, assistant head of culture and leisure services said spray-painters had ruined the once-attractive park.

And he urged law-abiding citizens to report the vandals: "We need to know who these people are," he said.

"We are desperate to try and get them out of this ridiculous behaviour."

But it is a hard task, as any major clean-up meets with an instant response.

Shaun Johnston, area manager of park and open spaces in Huddersfield said: "We create a blank canvas which is immediately taken advantage of.

"If we paint it all white then within days it will be covered with the stuff and there's a risk of it being offensive."

People with information about the vandals should ring Mr Johnston with their details on 01484 223177.
