A choir is wishing for a funding boost to stay on song.

The Beech Children’s Gospel Choir has already boosted self-esteem and confidence among children at Beech School, Golcar.

And now the choir is hoping for a financial boost from the Examiner Wish campaign to continue their successful singing group.

Lynda Liles from the Beech Avenue school said: “Our choir has 30 children from five to 11-years-old and many of our children lacked confidence and self-esteem, but being part of the choir helps build that which then shows through their school work.

“As our work is ongoing, there are certain costs attached to running this activity such as music and transport fees.”

The school is working with professional gospel singer Tyndale Thomas, who was awarded an MBE and works with many school choirs.

Lynda added: “Without him our choir would not be able to run.

“We practice once a week after school for one hour and the children learn songs, then put their own actions in.

“We feel that it is vital to sustain this ongoing activity because it gives the children a confidence boost and gives them an advantage to achieve things and take part in activities they wouldn’t otherwise experience.

“It opens them up to new ideas and interests in music of a wider range.

“It also provides a very positive influence which lasts far beyond their primary years.”

Last year the choir’s Examiner Wish money was spent on special polo shirts to wear during performances.
