A scout group in Huddersfield has big plans in the pipeline following its move to a new headquarters.

Members of the 41st Bradley Scouts hope to turn them into reality with a little help from the Examiner’s Wish campaign.

The group has moved to Bradley Methodist Church which provides more space for a wider range of activities than its previous HQ at nearby St Thomas’ Church.

Trudy Wallace, who chairs the group, said: “Members of the Methodist Church have been so welcoming. We are now the church’s main user!”

She said: “We are a successful and growing group and we are looking forward to some exciting times ahead – but with the move we have a huge list of jobs to do and a lot of things we’d like to do.”

Among the projects planned the group wants to build a fence at the rear of the site to make it more secure for the youngsters’ outdoor activities.

Trudy said: “We have received funding to pay for the materials, but we would like to hear from anyone with a flair for the unusual! We don’t want the fencing to block the light for people living behind the church so we want it to be aesthetically pleasing.”

The group is also seeking funds to provide items such as camping equipment and uniforms for families who cannot afford to buy them.

Trudy added: “We have a strong leadership team and executive committee. We have lots of new scouts, cubs and beavers, but some spare spaces will be available soon.

“We are also keen to welcome volunteers, such as young people undertaking community work as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.”

The group stages fundraising events – and helped raise hundreds of pounds by celebrating Bonfire Night with several other scout groups at Bradley Wood Scout Camp this week.

The group will also take part in a Remembrance Day service at Bradley Methodist Church this Sunday.
