It would be a trip of a lifetime for budding young rugby stars.

Children at Brighouse Rangers ARLFC are hoping they can go Down Under to compete with their Australian cousins.

The under 14s team has big plans to tour Australia in 2015.

But with the epic adventure set to cost £1,695 per child, the 23 strong team are looking for help to finance the long-haul adventure.

They have entered the Examiner’s Wish campaign which offers cash to charities and community groups.

Group leader Kim Salm said: “We aim to keep them off the streets, teach them social skills, develop a healthy lifestyle and to keep fit.

“They also learn about trust, discipline and make friends for life and we help them on their way to becoming good players and fulfilling their dreams.

“We need funds for training and first aid equipment and courses, but the big thing we need help with is the plan to send the boys on tour to Australia.

“They will play two games in Sydney and one in Brisbane and go into academies to see how the Australians train.

“We have some parents who will struggle to afford it but the cost includes insurance, flights, transfers, RFL fees and signing on fees in Australia, along with accommodation.

“All the adults including the coaches are paying for themselves.”
