A Brownies group is hoping a bit of Wish Campaign cash will help its girls become guiding lights.

Moldgreen Brownies, based at Moldgreen United Reformed Church, Old Wakefield Road, runs fun activities for girls aged seven to 10.

It also teaches skills and values which will help turn the youngsters into model citizens.

The group, which meets on Monday evenings, offers crafts, life skills and sports as well as camping and other educational trips.

The Brownies movement, which will be celebrating its centenary next year, prepares youngsters for the Girl Guides, who can participate in more adventurous activities including the Duke of Edinburgh awards.

Moldgreen Brownies, which celebrated its 60th anniversary this summer, hopes to spend its share of the Wish 2013 fund on a trip to London.

There the brownies will stay at the Pax Lodge and Icando Girl Guiding centres.

Alison Cargill leader said: “Many of the girls come from low income, socially deprived families and have narrow horizons.

“They have never stayed away from home before or travelled further than their home town.

“A two-night trip to London would allow the brownies to gain in confidence, boost emotional wellbeing and make new friends.

“The trip will create opportunities for the brownies to develop their social skills, to make their own decisions, new friends and experience how to do things on their own and in teams”.
