A GROUP of Slaithwaite Scouts are helping to enhance the Colne Valley.

They have made three picnic benches to be sited at recreation areas at Rotcher and Slaithwaite Spa.

The Explorer Scouts, who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award, have been working at Huddersfield Technical College in the evening for the last four weeks.

They have been taught a range of joinery skills at Brunel House at Leeds Road as part of the project funded by Kirklees Council's Youth Opportunities Fund.

The benches are part of the Scouts' ongoing community service with the River Colne Project.

They have already spent the summer doing river clean-ups, litter picks, dry stone walling and making natural sculptures.
