CARERS will be able to get their health checked and find out about help available for them during a special week.

A health and social care roadshow bus will roll into venues across Kirklees during Carers' Week, which runs from June 14 to 21.

An estimated 40,000 people in Kirklees are unpaid carers, looking after frail or ill relatives and friends.

The roadshow will be visiting the Huddersfield bus station precinct on June 14 and the open market the day after.

It will be on Dewsbury Town Hall precinct on June 16, Holmfirth Market the day after and Batley Market on June 18.

Clr Sylvia Smithson, the Kirklees Council Cabinet member with responsibility for social services, said: "This is an opportunity for carers to pick up free advice and information and, most importantly, to have a health check."

* A young carers' family fun day will be held at Northorpe Hall, Mirfield, on Saturday, June 5.
