LINDLEY Library reopens after major refurbishment on Thursday June 3.

The work, costing more than £200,000, has res- ulted in a more spacious, light and modern library.

The library is situated in the former Mechanics Hall and used to take up a partitioned area of the floor.

Now three partitions have come down and the stage has been removed, giving the library a third more space.

New windows allow natural light into the building for the first time and energy-efficient lighting, a new heating system and an accessible toilet complete the internal work on the building, which has also been partly re-roofed.

The old public toilets attached to the library have been demolished.

A new ramped entrance with automatic doors has been created at the side of the building.

The mobile library vehicle, which has served the area during the refurbishment, closes its doors

on Saturday May 29.
