PUBLIC consultation on plans to downgrade Slaithwaite fire station is to be extended by four weeks.

Comments on the plan for the station to be staffed by part-timers will now be accepted until October 8.

Other areas affected include Todmorden, and Garforth, near Leeds.

Clr Robert Light, chairman of West Yorkshire Fire Authority, said: "The chief fire officer must be given time to consider all the points made before he seeks a final decision from the authority."
