JURORS in the Peter Falconio murder trial have had a look at the camper van in which he made his fateful final journey.

The jury at the trial in Darwin, Australia, was shown the orange camper van in which Mr Falconio and his girlfriend Joanne Lees had been travelling.

The vehicle had been brought to a secure area of the court building. After half an hour looking at the van, the jury returned with questions which the judge, Chief Justice Brian Martin, put to Miss Lees.

In her answers, she said the van's curtains were open during the attack, that the camper and the vehicle owned by defendant Bradley John Murdoch were "some distance" from each other and that the driver's door of the camper van was slightly ajar so she could hear instructions on when to rev the engine.

She added that Mr Falconio had been trying to look after the van and had made a temporary repair with a coin and tape to the driver's seat.

She said: "We were hoping to sell the Kombi van (the camper van) later. We wanted to keep it neat and tidy."
