A FORMER Marine Sergeant from Honley has been honoured in the Queen's birthday list.

Adrian Belcher, 49, who lost a leg in the Falklands war when the helicopter he was co-piloting crashed, has been honoured with an MBE for his tireless Ministry of Defence work.

Mr Belcher, who now lives in Wiltshire with his wife Lynn and 18-year- old son William, began working for the MoD after the accident left him unable to continue in the Marines.

His mother Violet Nettleton, who still lives in Honley, said her son had always worked hard and that was the reason for his award.

She said: "I am very proud of him for getting this award.

"When he told me he sounded very pleased. We are not sure exactly when he will get the award yet."
