TWO Huddersfield families are making light of Christmas - many times over

Joan Brook's home in Almondbury, and the home of Steve and Jackie Picton in Deighton, are shining brightly for the festive season with elaborate decorations

Mrs Brook, 57, whose home is trimmed with hundreds of fairy- lights, icicles along the roof, several Santas and many bells, said: "I do it for the kids. I have six grandchidlren and they and other children living in the area love to see the lights.

"I put them up for the first time last year and have added a few more this time."

Mr Picton, 48, and his wife, 52, forked out £800 for their Christmas lights, which have put their electricity bill up by £30 a week.

But their eight grandchildren love the festive display, as do passing drivers.

"It's a very busy road and they are all stopping to have a look! Everybody loves it."

Mail order firm Studio is offering a £20,000 prize to Britain's best decorated house.
