The family of bomb blast victim Mic Hampshire have been overwhelmed by hundreds of messages of condolence in the wake of his death.

Mr Hampshire from Golcar was killed when a Taliban suicide bomber detonated an explosives-packed car near the capital’s international airport on Sunday.

A British security contractor, he was travelling in a European Union police (EUPOL) vehicle convoy when the bomb was detonated a few hundred metres from the airport terminal.

Mr Hampshire, known to all his family and friends as Mic, had lived in Golcar all his life and had been engaged to fiancée Claire Taylor since November last year.

In a statement released by the Foreign Office, Mr Hampshire’s family said: “No words can explain what we are going through at this time and we will miss Michael dearly.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank people for the messages we have received but would now like, as a family, to grieve for Michael in peace.”
