WE haven't had a holiday abroad for a couple of years, so, enjoying different things, we've decided to try a week on a cruise liner.

After much deliberation we booked a Mediterranean six-nighter stopping off at Spain, France and Guernsey.

It'll either be a love or hate relationship, as we hate having to mix with other people on holiday.

Cameron is so excited, it being a child-friendly cruise with food around all day. He'll be in his element.

Anyway, it's not until September.

One of our favourite destinations is France. There's so much to do and see, not to mention the good wine.

On one trip, when Cameron was a nipper, we decided to load our bicycles on the back of the car. Now the autoroute is much quieter in France and we chose the quickest route, which was via toll roads.

We were tootling along very nicely when Rob shouted out: "The bike's have just fallen off and landed in the middle of the autoroute."

"Yes very funny."

When someone winds you up all the time you tend not to believe them.

"No, I'm serious."

So I turned my head - and there they were, hundreds of yards back lying in the middle of the road.

You won't believe what we did next. We actually reversed back and picked them up before pulling onto the hard shoulder.

Now this was possible as it was so quiet - not a vehicle in sight.

Anyway, apart from retrieving our bikes we didn't want them to cause an accident.

Now you can just imagine doing that in England!

Mine ended up with a buckled wheel and I spent the holiday being accosted by French men telling me my bike was faulty.

Which was quite nice.
