A BIRKBY family escaped unhurt when a severe blaze tore through a bedroom at their home. The fire at the house on Norman Road at 8pm last night is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault. The blaze gutted the bedroom and badly damaged another bedroom and an attic room. A mother and two children escaped unhurt as the fire quickly took hold. Crew Manager Mark Hurd, of Huddersfield fire station, said: "It was a serious blaze, which started in an upstairs bedroom. The fire had spread quickly and the intense heat and dense smoke caused a lot of damage." A fire investigation expert pinpointed the cause of the blaze.
