MUSICIANS flocked to Holmfirth's annual music festival.

The festival was held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Holmfirth Civic Hall.

It drew about 350 competitors in classes for instrument soloists, singers, children's choirs and musical families.

The winners of the family section were Judith Moore, her sister Elizabeth Pearson and her children, Clive and Lynda Pearson.

The winner of the Rotary class prize was Marie Johnson, 21, of Holmfirth. The prize of £250 to further the winner's musical career is donated by Holmfirth Rotary Club.

Marie is a soprano singer and has just completed a degree course in French, German and linguistics at York University, where she sang in the university chamber and college choirs.

She hopes to take an MA music course and become a professional musician.

She currently works for the National Youth Choir.
