Visitors to Scammonden reservoir in Huddersfield will be able to enjoy a range of free activities on Saturday.

The beauty spot will welcome visitors on September 20 to an all-day ‘Walk & Ride’ festival which will help people explore some of the area’s countryside.

Ruth Hair, Project Manager at Pennine Prospects, said: “Scammonden is the ideal place to enjoy many the activities offered as part of the South Pennines Walk and Ride Festival. We hope the Festival will give you a taster of what we have on offer in our beautiful, diverse and distinctive South Pennines area.”

Among the events on offer during the day will be:

  • Nordic Walking (10-11.30am)
  • Wildlife puppets (10am-12.30pm and 1-3.30pm)
  • Mountain trikes (11am-3pm)
  • Guided walks which start at 11.30am and 1.30pm.
  • Tea, coffee and disabled toilet on site.

The day will also be an opportunity to show off some of the renovation work which has happened at Scammonden, much of it carried out by Yorkshire Water, including the route for further improvements to site access through resurfacing of existing paths to create a four mile circular route.

Woodland management has also been taking place at the site, the first landscaping there in 40 years, which will thin the trees out and help the native species to thrive.
