Even the rain couldn’t stop Golcar Lily Day from blooming.

The community rallied round to watch the best of brass bands in action, take part in workshops and view some unusual woollen creations.

Golcar Lily Day is an event aimed at bringing the community together to share all that is great about Golcar.

Chair of the organising group Sue Starr said: “We’re very happy with how it went, so many people came out despite the weather, which was really good to see.

“We spent a year holding events to raise money for this one day and it’s a day we all come together and have a jolly good celebration.”

One family enjoying the woolly trail was the Hitchin family, Rob, Helen and children Lewis, aged four, and Susie, aged two.

Helen said: “It’s brilliant, they’ve loved the woollen creatures in the church and the church yard. It’s a great event and nice to see so many people in the village.”

The odd downpour didn’t deter pensioners Allan and Maggie Stokes from joining in. Maggie, 76 this week, said: “It’s just nice to see the place so lively.”

While the fly-past by a Douglas C-47 Dakota had to be cancelled due to the weather, scouts, schools, the church and shops all got involved, plus there were charity and food and drink stalls. There was also a steam roller, a guided walk, a bake-off, tours of Golcar brewery and morris dancing.
