The family of a tragic Huddersfield woman hope to help many others.

The brother and parents of Leanne Baker, who was found hanged shortly before her wedding, are determined to help others suffering from clinical depression.

And their aim through The Leanne Baker Trust is to establish a drop-in centre in Huddersfield helping others who suffer from the condition.

They are still grieving for 35-year-old Leanne, who died last June after being found at her home in Almondbury.

An inquest heard how she had suffered from depression years earlier but battled back, only to succumb again to the condition as she planned her wedding and new life.

Her father John Baker, of Meltham, said: “She had suffered for a long time and it took her nine months to get through it the first time.

“She was off work and at times didn’t even want to get out of bed. It was terrible to see.

“She got over that first bout with a lot of help but it returned as she was planning her wedding.

“She was so close to her mum Carol and me it was terrible to see it happening. It was a tragedy for everyone who knew Leanne.

“The people that helped her did a great job but it was a tragedy”.

Leanne worked as a retail manager and was planning a new future with fiance David.

Her brother Darren, a well-known artist, is closely involved with establishing the Trust.

“The aim is to raise enough funds to set up a drop-in centre, hopefully in Huddersfield, to help anyone who is suffering from depression and to raise more awareness. We have been told that as many as one in four could suffer at some time and to many people, it is a taboo subject.

“I do a lot of work as an artist with the Professional Footballers Association and I was surprised to find out many players suffer.

“My sister and I were very close and it has been a devastating blow to us all. For many people who do suffer, they feel neglected. We hope that by setting up a centre we can help them with both professional and voluntary help. It will be a place where they can come and chat about their problems and their concerns.

“We are currently in the process of setting up the Leanne Baker Trust fund and have already looked at some fundraising events to help keep her memory alive and also offer a helping hand”.
