The family of the man killed in last week's M62 horror crash have released a touching tribute to him.

Darren Walmsley, 51, of Milnrow, was a 'devoted husband and father' and will be 'sorely missed', it read.

The family said: "Darren was a quiet, shy and unassuming man who was happiest in the company of his family and friends.

“He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of twenty five years, Noreen and a caring and proud father to his beloved daughter Melanie.

“His father John raised Darren and younger brother David when their mother passed away at an early age, making them a tight, supportive family unit.

“He was always willing to help those close to him and found time to do favours for anyone who needed them.

“Those who spent time with him found Darren to be good company, quick to smile and laugh. He will be sorely missed."

The crash, which happened at around 9.30am last Monday, saw Mr Walmsley's car collide with a HGV before crashing through the central reservation and colliding with another car and two HGVs.
