FANS of boy band Blue and pop act Girls Aloud! descended on Huddersfield box offices for tickets to see their idols at the McAlpine Stadium.

Tickets went on sale at 10am yesterday to see Blue and support act Girls Aloud! on July 31.

The bands are providing a major boost for the McAlpine, which is aiming to bring more big names to Huddersfield.

General tickets for unreserved seats at the stadium's John Smith and South stands and the lower tiers of the Lawrence Batley stand cost £22.

They are on sale at Huddersfield and Holmfirth tourist information centres.

Staff at Huddersfield TIC, on Albion Street, were rushed off their feet yesterday as people queued for tickets.

One of those waiting was Nicola Robinson, of Lindley.

Nicola, 20, was getting tickets for herself and her friends.

She said: "I quite like Blue. I haven't seen them before but I think it is good that they are coming here for once, because we don't get much in Huddersfield."

Blue fan Ben Brooks, 13, will also be watching the concert.

Ben, of Crosland Moor, is being treated to the tickets by his mum as an Easter present.

He said: "I was going to go to Sheffield to see them in November, but this is a lot better. I think it is fantastic that they are getting concerts in Huddersfield."

Reserved seats at £25 and £28 on the upper tier of the Lawrence Batley stand are being sold at the McAlpine Stadium box office.
