EXPERTS at the University of Huddersfield are delighted the Olympics are coming to Britain.
Sports expert Dr Nicki Latham believes it will encourage more people to become active and conscious of their fitness.
And business expert Dr John Anchor sees enormous benefits from an economic and financial point of view.
Dr Latham, head of the Department of Health and Sports, said: "It is fantastic news.
"It is a momentous day, not only for England but for everyone involved in sport.
"It presents us with a great chance to develop sport locally as well as nationally.
"People in Huddersfield should feel excited by the news and we at the University would hope it will raise the profile of sports and health studies."
Dr Anchor, who heads the University's Business Studies department, was equally delighted.
"There are sure to be economic benefits, not only to London but the regions.
"Of course there are the costs of staging the Games which can run at a loss.
"But there are long-term benefits as well as those involved in the run-up to the Games, with the construction and development projects.
"It will also mean a huge influx of tourists and many of those will spread out into the regions, including Huddersfield.
"The benefits of the Games and facilities left behind can only be for the good."
