YOUNG Farmers' clubs are increasing in number in Yorkshire.

The opening of Halifax Young Farmers' Club takes the number of such clubs in Yorkshire to 49.

This is a landmark, as the number of clubs had been falling since the foot and mouth outbreak in 2001.

County chairman Andrew Wood said:

"The decline in numbers appears to have ceased and a new club opening up is fantastic news."

The Young Farmers' movement is a voluntary youth organisation which provides its members with a safe environment in which they can have fun, make friends, learn and achieve.

It is open to people aged 10 to 26, and not just farmers, although members usually live in rural areas.
