A HOUSEBOUND woman aged 73 died after she fell while getting out of a chair on her own, an inquest heard yesterday.

Joan Whitehead, who lived with her husband Frank and son Peter, needed carers to come in four times a day.

The Huddersfield hearing was told how Mrs Whitehead fell at her home in Hammond Street, Fartown, on November 26 this year.

Her son was in the kitchen when he heard a thud from the living room.

He rushed in to find his mother face down on the floor.

She had got up on her own to use the commode.

She was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary after suffering a subdural haematoma, or bruising to the brain.

Her condition briefly improved but she died early on Tuesday.

Kirklees coroner Dr Peter Straker recorded a verdict of accidental death.
