FASHION retailer Peacocks opens its new Huddersfield store tomorrow.
The new 5,000sq ft store at the Piazza Shopping Centre brings 24 full and part-time jobs to the town.
It also provides a boost to the retail sector - by occupying premises left vacant with the closure of the MVC music, video and games retailer last year.
The manager of the new Peacocks store is Christina Heaney, who lives at Birchencliffe.
She graduated in international business at Sunderland University in 2001 before joining WH Smith.
She later became a trainee manager at the Beatties department store in Kingsgate and rose to department manager.
Before leaving Beatties to join Peacocks, she was manager of the kitchen, bathroom accessories and toys department.
Her assistant managers at Peacocks are Helen Harland and Hazel Lockwood.
Christina said store staff had spent the past few weeks putting finishing touches to the new store following a major refit.
Peacocks already has stores at Halifax, Brighouse and Heckmondwike.
But Christina said the Huddersfield store was more modern and reflected the retailer's drive into high fashion trends for men's, women's and children's clothing.
Peacocks is part of The Peacock Group also owns Grange Moor-based women's clothing retailer bonmarche.
Peacocks' Huddersfield store is one of 30 new outlets planned to open this year.
The £21.5m expansion programme will also include new stores for Bradford and Leeds as well as Manchester, Southampton and Cardiff. The new stores will create more than 500 jobs.
