AN Almondbury man killed himself after wrongly bec- oming convinced he was suffering from a muscle disease.

Alan Shaw, of Southfield Road, was found hanging at his home on October 18, 2005 an inquest in Huddersfield heard.

It heard 51-year- old Mr Shaw had been an active man who enjoyed running and cycling, until developing pain in his knees in July 2005.

He had physiotherapy, but this did not help and he became depressed because he could no longer work or play sports.

He saw his GP in August 2005 bec- ause he was thinking about self-harm and he was referred to a mental health crisis intervention team. They decided he was not an immediate risk and he was referred to a community mental health team.

He left no note, but coroner Roger Whittaker said he was sure Mr Shaw had intended to take his own life.

He recorded a verdict of suicide.
