IT has been a massive success for the past 23 years.

And in that time tens of thousands of pounds have been raised for a host of good causes.

Now plans are under way for the 2013 Examiner Charity Challenge.

The launch night for the event is Tuesday, February 26. Organisers from the Lions Club will be at Lindley Liberal Club from 7.30pm to tell all charities who are interested how to raise money through the event.

There to answer questions will be officials of The Lions Clubs of Huddersfield and the Examiner.

Any charity that is looking to raise money through sponsorship should be at the launch night, so they can be told how to cash in on the event.

The Charity Challenge will take place on Sunday, May 20, and again will be based at Lepton Highlanders Sports Arena off Wakefield Road.

There should be something for everyone, with three walks – four miles, seven miles and 20k – as well as bike rides and horse rides.

The seven and four mile walks will also offer the opportunity for people to try Nordic Walking, walking with poles which participants find a more energetic form of walking.

There are three bike rides planned – a 17-mile road ride, a 19-mile mountain bike ride and a 10-mile ride which is aimed at family groups.

A horse ride of about 17 miles is also being held.

At Beaumont Park, organisers are also planning to run a Teddy Bears’ Picnic, for young children not able to walk the four-mile route at Lepton.

Bob Armitage, of Huddersfield Lions Club, said: "Anyone who would like to know more about this project is encouraged to get in touch.

"You can contact me on 07802 900653, or by email at ejarla@tiscali.co.uk or by writing to the Examiner who will pass the letters to the chairman of the organising committee.

"I hope that many organisations or individuals who are trying to raise money for their pet project or charity will come and talk to the organisers in February at the Liberal Club."
