THOUSANDS of people will be flocking to Castle Hill on Sunday for Huddersfield's annual gay festival.

More than 2,000 people from the lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) community are expected to take part in this year's Pink Picnic.

The festival - which began 19 years ago - will take place on fields below Castle Hill.

Four marquees will provide various attractions, including holistic therapies, fortune telling and face-painting.

There will be two bar areas, as well as 24 stalls.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the event, from 2pm to 8pm.

Drag queen Missdameana will host the event, accompanied by Gina.

A guest cabaret, karaoke and dance marquee will also be on show.

Organiser Richard Blackburn, a community development worker for the Brunswick Centre in Halifax - among the groups organising the event - said: "It is going to be bigger and better this year.

"It is the biggest pride event in the area."

He added: "Parents need to be aware that it is a sexual health promotion fun day for over-16s. There won't be any nudity, but there will be information stands."
