More details have emerged of events lined up for Huddersfield’s Festival of Light.

But the main stage act has yet to be announced for the event, which is being run on a smaller budget this year.

One big attraction for families will be a chance to take part in a Frozen singalong. The Disney film has been a monster hit especially with young children.

Festival organisers say the event on November 29 will pay homage to the film.

A spokesman said: “Festival of Light will bring fantastic film, light and music events to St. George’s Square.

“Pop along with the kids – big kids welcome too – to Sneaky Experience’s highly acclaimed, sell-out touring production of ‘Frozen’ Sing-Along. Meet the characters and sing along to the film.

“Kirklees’ celebrated Hade Edge Band will also play a concert of popular classics, leading into the traditional firework display over the railway station.

“The Square will also host a world premiere commissioned by Ilkley Film Festival. Audiences will be treated to a double bill live music and film event titled ‘The Final Frontier brought to the Festival of Light as part of BFI Sci-Fi. Huddersfield band, STEMS will perform their newly composed sound track to the famous 1902 film Trip To The Moon, followed by the soon to be announced ‘main stage act’.”

The action-packed day also welcomes back Yorkshire’s lighting designer, James Bawn, who wonderfully lit up Emley Moor TV mast during the Tour de France. He will create stunning light effects to celebrate and illuminate the iconic Huddersfield architecture of St George’s Square.

There will also be street performers to entertain, amaze and surprise, food and drink stalls, and light-based art installations, including work from local school children and students from Kirklees College.

Kirklees Council leader Clr David Sheard said: “We are delighted to once again be able to fund the Festival of Light in Huddersfield, which is the culmination of a year of fantastic, free- to-the-public festivals in Kirklees.

“Each year we try to bring something different to the festival which encourages more people to visit our town and, importantly, to support our town centre businesses. The live music score performances are not only a first for Huddersfield, but a first for Europe and will be a unique experience not to be missed.”
