BANDS, beer gardens and cooking will all be part of this year’s Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival.

More than 40 stallholders will set up in the town centre on the weekend of September 27 and 28. There will be children’s entertainment, brass bands, German carnival bands, beer gardens, cookery contests and demonstrations and food tasting.

The event is organised by Kirklees Council and the Holme Valley Business Association.

Clr Ken Sims, the council’s Cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This year’s festival is promising to be the best yet.

“Each year the crowds grow, we attract more stallholders and more places want to get involved.

“Holmfirth is gaining a regional reputation for its festivals.

“Food producers consider the food and drink festival to be one of the best in the North.”

Ian White, from BBC TV’s Look North, will take part in a Celebrity Ready Steady Cook competition at midday on the Sunday.

Pennine FM presenters Barry Robinson and Paul Clarke will open the festival at 11am on the Saturday.

They will be joined on stage for a Ready Steady Cook contest by the winner of a junior chef competition for people aged 10 to 24.
