A LOTTERY-winning couple swapped their millionaire lifestyles for Santa suits.

And they delighted and surprised children with presents at a Lindley playgroup.

Jackpot winners David and Margaret Storey, of Shipley, disguised themselves as Santa Claus and Mrs Santa to deliver gifts to youngsters at Lindley St Stephen's Parent and Toddler Group.

The couple, in red and white fur suits, were surprise guests at the group's Christmas party yesterday when more than 15 parents gathered to enjoy festive fun including carols, jelly and mince pies.

Every child got the chance to meet Mr and Mrs Santa, who scooped £1.4m in 1998, and collect a gift.

Mrs Storey, 51, whose niece lives in Huddersfield and attends the group with her two children, said: "It is so rewarding.

"The look on the childrens' faces is the magic of it all.

"Children are children, they are all lovely. Their faces tell the whole story."

She said helping children had been one of the couple's priorities since winning the lottery.

"I used to work with children with learning disabilities and I really like children," she said.

And three-year-old Charlotte Robinson, of Kirkwood Drive, Oakes, enjoyed the visit.

She said: "I really liked Santa. He was funny and made me smile."

Group leader Tracy Petterson, of Southern Road, Cowlersley, said: "It was really nice of them to come here giving presents.

"The majority of the children here are two so it is really special because they know what Christmas is about."

The children also recieved presents at the Christmas party organised by the group.

Jenny Whitehead, 37, Birchington Avenue, Birchencliffe, said: "It has been really nice and it is all part of Christmas."

The group meets every Tuesday, except during school holidays, from 1pm to 3pm at St Stephen's Church, Lindley.
