ORGANISERS are putting the finishing touches to this year’s Holmfirth Festival of Folk, which runs from May 9 to 11.
The Saturday afternoon showcase of morris sides and street entertainers will now take place in the Memorial Gardens and not at Holmfirth Civic Hall, as previously intimated.
Because of work being carried out at Victoria Park – the usual location for the festival – and lack of seating it will not be possible to gather there for the performance.
With the help of officers from Kirklees Council’s Culture and Leisure Services and some local councillors the alternative venue has been confirmed.
The procession will gather at the Methodist Church and set off at 3.45pm.
It will go along Huddersfield Road, double back into Hollowgate and go up Station Road to the Memorial Gardens.
It will be more spectacular than ever with school groups and a magic dragon adding to the fun.
Free use of the Civic Hall had been offered to compensate for the inconvenience caused by the ongoing work, but the building was deemed unsuitable for this event.
Festival organisers say they are grateful for Kirklees’s help in resolving problems.
