A Holmfirth surgery is in the best of health after topping a patient satisfaction chart.

Oaklands Health Centre scored highest in Huddersfield in the latest NHS GP Patients Survey.

The Huddersfield Road practice, which scored 94.3% overall, finished an impressive 145th out of 7,612 in England.

Nearly all (99.2%) of those surveyed said they would recommend Oaklands to a newcomer in the area.

And 98% said they had confidence and trust in the surgery’s GPs.

Oaklands only dipped below 90% for waiting times, where 86.8% of those surveyed were satisfied with how long it took to get an appointment.

Practice partner Dr James Ward said: “We’re delighted with result and grateful to our patients for their positive feedback.

“Our staff work hard as a team to meet our patients’ needs and will continue to try to do so in the future.”

The second best practice in Huddersfield was Meltham Village Surgery which scored 94% overall and finished 161st in England.

Third place in Huddersfield went to Dr Wybrew and Partner, Greenhead Park, which finished 247th with a score of 93.7%.

The previous survey’s winner, Shepley Health Centre, came fourth in Huddersfield with an overall score of 93.3%.

Performing worst in Huddersfield – and among the worst in England – was Bradford Road Medical Centre, Fartown.

The surgery, which had been placed in special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) last year following a damning report, scored 61.2% overall and 7,509th in England.

Just 41.5% of patients were satisfied with waiting times for appointments at the surgery.

Bradford Road Medical Centre has since been rated ‘good’ by the CQC following a change of practice manager.

Finishing second worst in Huddersfield were Lepton and Kirkheaton Surgeries, both run by Dr Saravanan Mani, which was also placed in special measures by the CQC. The surgeries scored 67.5% overall.

The GP Patients Survey collects more than 800,000 responses every year.

The latest data is based on two ‘waves’ of data collection, carried out in January to March 2016 and July to September 2015.
