A SCHOOL was targeted by arsonists the same day it was partially closed owing to an earlier attack by vandals.

Children from three classes were told to stay away from lessons at South Crosland Junior School on Moor Lane, Netherton, yesterday.

Twenty windows had been broken, leaving fragments of glass strewn across three classrooms.

Then last night, firefighters were called out when a wheeled bin was set alight in the school grounds by arsonists.

The fire crew were called to douse the blazing bin at 9.50pm.

Today children were back at the school for lessons, although staff were having to shuffle them around until all the damage has been repaired.

During the earlier vandal attack, the intruders had grabbed tennis rackets, hockey sticks and other sports equipment and made a bonfire on the playground outside.

The vandals are thought to have struck at about midnight on Saturday.
