Firefighters tackled a large blaze at a petrol station in Huddersfield on Saturday.

A number of fire engines went to the scene of the blaze, at the Birchencliffe petrol station on Halifax Road.

An aerial appliance was also at the scene.

Halifax Road was closed in both directions between Birchencliffe Hill Road and Lindley Moor Road at Ainley Top roundabout.

A number of nearby roads were also closed.

It is thought the fire broke out on the roof of the Co-op fuel station and convenience store in Halifax Road at about 10am.

The blaze caused severe damage to the shop.

Firefighters had brought the blaze under control by 11.30am and then stayed at the scene damping down.

Halifax Road was reopened at around 1pm.
