FIREFIGHTERS broke in to a burning building where they believed someone was trapped.
However, the house in Thornhill Bridge Lane, Brighouse, was empty.
The front of the one-bedroom terrace caught fire early today and fire crews from Brighouse were called at 6.50am.
Sub officer Mick Holbrook said: "We have to assume that someone is inside when we arrive at a house fire but on this occasion after a search of the building we discovered it was empty.
"We managed to limit the fire damage but there is a lot of smoke damage inside the house."
Police are investigating.
