FIVE fire crews battled a blaze which broke out at a Brighouse scrapyard.

The blaze broke out at a mill on the site of Peugeot and Citroen Recyclers on Bridge Road at 1.30pm yesterday.

The three-storey 130ft by 66ft building was empty, except for the ground floor which housed 20 cars due for recycling. All of them had caught fire.

The ceiling of the ground floor was also burning when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters stayed on the scene until around 5.45pm, but returned to make sure the fire had not rekindled.

The building was saved. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
