A GARAGE fire in Halifax caused chaos for commuters making their way to and from Huddersfield.
The blaze at a garage just off Calderdale Way saw the busy road closed from 1.30pm yesterday and it remained closed today.
At the height of the blaze at the Surefix Garage up to 30 firefighters fought the flames.
Halifax firefighter crew manager George Gooch said they were called to the site at 1pm.
He said the fire was centred around a trolley.
He added: "On the trolley was acetylene cylinder which reached a critical temperature.
"Had it blown up, it would have caused a lot of damage to the surrounding area."
Calderdale Way was sticlosed this morning and was not expected to be open until the afternoon.
