FIREFIGHTERS were called to deal with a blaze in a store room ...  packed with smoke detectors.

When they arrived at the single-storey building they could hear all the detectors going off.

They were called to the store at Kirklees Council’s offices on Flint Street in Fartown at 2am today.

Huddersfield crew commander Scott Elvidge said: “The building was badly damaged by fire and when we went inside we were confronted by the sound of all the alarms going off and their red warning lights flashing.

“The fire had created a lot of acrid smoke which took a lot of clearing out of the building.’’

The store also had care pendants inside which are used by the elderly and frail.

The cause is being investigated.
