A DRY winter has led to an early moorland fire.
Slaithwaite firefighters tackled the 400m by 200m area of burning moor at Deanhead, Scammonden, at 11am yesterday.
Watch manager Graham Holroyd said: "This is the earliest in the year many of us can remember tackling such a fire.
"The probable cause is a discarded cigarette or something similar.
"Despite the cold, the moors are still very dry, so we would appeal to people to think twice about their actions."
