Quick-thinking firefighters averted a potential factory inferno after a brazier ignited temporary offices and an HGV and trailer.

Two crews from Dewsbury were called out to a bedding factory at Battye Lane, Dewsbury, at 2.45am today after a workers’ brazier set a nearby lorry and portable cabins alight.

The nightshift workers were unaware of the fire until a tyre from the HGV exploded.

Crews were quickly on the scene and two firefighters immediately applied specialist high power jets to the blaze to prevent it spreading to the one-storey factory building. One officer described the scene as “an inferno”.

The fire brigade spent two hours tackling the fire, which completely destroyed the lorry and trailer as well as one of the temporary offices, along with all the computer and office equipment. The second temporary building was badly damaged.

There were no injuries.
