A lit firework was thrown through a window in Lockwood last night.

Fire chiefs have warned householders to be on their guard after a lout set fire to a set of curtains by throwing fireworks through an open window.

Commander Paul Gyde of Huddersfield Fire Station said the incident occurred on Saturday evening at a home in Rashcliffe Hill Road, Lockwood.

He said: “Both our appliances attended but the owners managed to put it out on arrival by putting water on them.

“I would urge householders to be vigilant in the days leading up to November 5 and not leave windows open.”

Overall the night passed off very quietly for the emergency services, who had called for people to stay safe over the weekend.
