THE yob who tried to blow up a dog's body with a firework has walked free from court.
But Steven Robinson, 19, has been given a community service order after his callous actions involving Yorkshire Terrier Emmie.
And a court was told he and his family had received threats after the case.
After the hearing RSPCA Inspector Alison Wilkinson said the case highlighted the society's concerns about fireworks, especially as Emmie was running scared from the noise of fireworks when she was run over.
Ms Wilkinson said the incident had a profound effect on the dog's owners, Keith and Maureen Barrington. "It has been devastating for them," she said. "I don't think they will ever get over it."
Pc Neil Moorhouse, of West Yorkshire Police, said the incident had caused outrage in the local area but particularly for the couple involved.
"They are a lovely couple," he said. "It has been very distressing for them."
The couple originally believed the firework had killed their pet but she had in fact been struck by a car.
